“I joined Anthony Collins (AC) in August 2022 fresh from my LPC. Unlike some of the other trainees, I had not worked in the firm before but everyone was very welcoming and I quickly felt like part of the team.

AC was the only private firm that I applied to for a training contract. What drew me to AC was the range of seats and the fact that they are treated equally, compared to other firms that offer for example private client and social sector seats but seem to prioritise their commercial work. This reassured me that I would not be pushed into an area that I did not want to work in.

As a trainee, I have sat seats in property, third-sector and governance, funding and corporate. I have been pleasantly surprised by the hands-on experience I have been given compared to peers at other firms. Fee-earners delegate tasks that have a direct impact on the matter at hand, meaning trainees get good quality work. Trainees get to play an important role in a matter and get to take ownership of their work (for example, sometimes a matter will be run by just two fee-earners and a trainee) – this means trainees get plenty of client contact and can often clearly point to what they have done in a matter and how it has directly helped. That being said, trainees are well-supervised. Fee-earners will check work and give detailed feedback and are always available for a chat or to answer any questions trainees may have.

AC is great for a trainee because it has the quality of work of a large law firm while retaining the support, individual responsibility and camaraderie that many large law firms lose.”
